Insect and Moor Worlds

Once you’ve passed through the foyer of the Crane Worlds and across the outdoor terrace, you’ll find yourself at the approximately 150 m² artificial fens, the centrepiece of the Fen Worlds. Here, you can explore various types of fen – from silted-up fens to alder swamp forests – and learn all about the formation and importance of these wetland habitats from the information boards.

After the ‘Moor Worlds’ section, the trail leads you to the ‘Insect Worlds’. At the heart of this area is a large wild bee mound, surrounded by a landscape in full bloom. With the help of activity booklets, you can learn about the various insects here and, for example, find out how these useful six-legged creatures are faring and how we can help them.

The insect and bog habitats were created in 2025 with funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment as part of the Federal Biodiversity Programme, within the collaborative project ‘Networked Diversity on the Schatzküste’.

Guided tours

From May to August, guided tours of the Insect and Moor Worlds take place every Tuesday at 11 am. These are free of charge for visitors to the Crane Worlds. No booking is required.

 For our younger visitors, we have a free activity booklet available in the foyer. With this, they can set off on their own journey of discovery through the world of insects.

Worlds of Geese

Since June 2026, mallards and greylag geese have been living in the orchard meadow. Visitors can come and watch them there.
