KRANICHWELTEN
Europe's largest crane centre is all about the fascinating ‘birds of happiness’. The modern, interactive exhibition covering 500 m² invites young and old alike to discover the world of cranes.
Visitors can learn exciting facts about migration routes, habitats and crane conservation in multimedia areas featuring VR animation, a sound shower of the calls of all 15 crane species worldwide, a digital quiz, craft tables and a crane film.
Here you get information about the best places for observing cranes and up-to-date info on the migration of cranes. Many excursions and other events are organized by the NABU-Experience Centre. One of these events is the "Week of the crane“, which takes place every year in September.
Here you can find information about the resting area at the Baltic Sea coast in our leaflet „Kranichparadies“.

The NABU Crane Centre in Groß Mohrdorf has not existed since 1 August 2025.
Please note: The Crane Centre in Groß Mohrdorf has been closed since 1 August 2025! It has been replaced by the NABU Experience Centre in Günz.
The NABU Crane Centre in Groß Mohrdorf was located on the Vorpommern coast, an important resting area for cranes, about 14 km northwest of Stralsund from September 1996 to August 2025. Since 2017, NABU has been the sole shareholder of Crane Protection Germany. Since then, the centre has been called the NABU Crane Centre.
The permanent exhibition, open all year round, offered visitors the opportunity to learn everything about the grey crane and its relatives. Informative display boards, audiovisual media and specimens provided an insight into the life of these impressive large birds.
