Extra feeding sites

"Extra feeding" for cranes is not thought as a special feeding to attract the birds. They are primarily a conservation measure and are used to provide feeding areas without disturbances (see “conservation”). However, extra feeding sites provide an excellent opportunity for crane observations. With high food availability and low disturbing frequency the flight distance of the cranes to the humans will be reduced.

Crane Conservation Germany therefore combined the long-term extra feeding sites for cranes with a special observation point near „Lake Günz“. In autumn 2015 the modern observation station “KRANORAMA” was opened to the public, which provides excellent possibility for visitors to observe the cranes without being seen by the cranes. More information about the KRANORAMA can be found here.
