Ida and Michel have arrived

Back on 29 April, we made a clear point of emphasising this on our Facebook and Instagram channels: please never take young animals from the wild – it is also against the law!

Unfortunately, this appeal did nothing to help our two new charges.

Background: Ida was the first to arrive at Kranichschutz Deutschland on 10 May 26, brought in by private individuals from Lower Saxony, in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district. She was approximately 5 days old and weighed 104 grams. After recovering from the air sac rupture she had suffered, she developed well. (Estimated hatching date: 3 May 26)

On 15 May, Michel arrived – a Brandenburg crane from the Böckenberg farm pasture – who had unfortunately been standing by the roadside on 12 May 26 when people from Berlin drove past and took him with them. Since yesterday, we have been trying to provide a good home for our two charges. Unfortunately, due to their imprinting issues, the two birds cannot be released into the wild. Please support us with their care and upkeep – thank you very much!
