In which altitude do cranes fly?
During migration cranes fly significantly higher than in the resting region, when they are commuting between the feeding grounds and roosting areas. The migration altitude depends on weather and visibility conditions and varies between 50 and 2,000 m above sea level. A current investigation of seven native cranes with a GPS transmitter from Crane Conservation Germany shows that during migration cranes fly at an average altitude of about 300 m.
