Migration routes of cranes are getting shorter
Since its foundation in 1991 Crane Conservation Germany has started ringing of cranes in Germany. Since then, data is gathered about their migration pattern by using the online-database ICORA.de. Recent results show that cranes on the Western European migration route fly about 250 km less within the last ten years. Ten years ago banded cranes flew on average about 1.000 km to their wintering sites, but last winter they flew just about 750 km.
If you want to support our ringing activities, you could become the grandparent of one banded crane and sponsor the costs of its banding (material & field work: 150 €). Please contact the NABU-Crane Centre for more information. Thank you!
