Spring migration almost over
The great migration from Lake Hornborga to the northern European breeding grounds started the day before yesterday, on 8th April 2024. Due to the onset of winter with heavy snowfall and stormy winds, there was initially a migration jam here. By yesterday morning there were at least 24,600 cranes here, but by the evening count there were only 15,300 left.
The crane migration on our Western European migration route is thus coming to an end. We will have to wait until autumn to see the wonderful flight formations and hear their crane calls again.
